BMW India Amid Rising EV Demand
BMW India Eyes Strong Double-Digit Growth in 2025 Amid Rising EV Demand
While most mass-market automakers are anticipating low single-digit growth in the coming year, BMW India is setting its sights on robust double-digit growth in 2025. The optimism is fueled by surging demand for the company’s electric vehicles (EVs) and long-wheelbase models.
In the January–March 2025 quarter, BMW India sold 3,914 units, marking a 7% year-on-year (YoY) growth. For the entire year of 2024, the company registered a solid 11% YoY increase, delivering 15,721 cars.
“We are witnessing sustained demand for our long-wheelbase and electric offerings. Currently, BMW is outperforming the overall premium automotive segment in India. We’re confident of maintaining strong double-digit growth in 2025 as well,” said Vikram Pawah, President & CEO of BMW Group India, in an interview with Business Standard.
Despite a general slowdown in sedan sales across the mass-market segment, BMW’s sedans continue to attract significant buyer interest, contributing 45% to its overall sales in India. “At every price bracket, we offer both a sedan and an SUV — both with strong value propositions — giving our customers the power of choice,” Pawah added.
BMW’s electric segment is also witnessing exponential growth. In Q1 2025, the brand sold 646 electric vehicles, a figure more than three times higher than the same period last year.
Explaining the momentum in EV adoption, Pawah noted: “Our typical customer drives between 6,000–9,000 km annually, owns multiple vehicles, and has private parking access. We include a home charger with every EV purchase, reducing dependency on public infrastructure. With such usage, an EV may only need charging four to five times a month.”
Customers are increasingly drawn to BMW EVs for their comfort, luxury, space, strong road presence, and fuel savings. “When a product fits seamlessly into a customer’s lifestyle and offers tangible value, the rate of EV adoption naturally accelerates,” Pawah concluded.
